En cualquier película que tenga la cantidad de energía que se derrocha a raudales en las obras del director manchego Pedro Almodóvar, que dio con Laberinto de pasiones (1982) uno de sus magníficos saltos iniciales a lo que sería una trayectoria artística más que fructífera, como mínimo cabría darse cuenta de la posibilidad de que algún que otro tabú emerja de los escombros de este frenesí, asombrando a la audiencia con su poder rompedor. Aun así, tengo que ser sincero: dichos momentos en Laberinto de pasiones me salen más de la cuenta, y podríamos empezar por los múltiples instantes de incesto, por nombrar solo un fenómeno, y vaya, la verdad…

Átame is a blast, featuring an Antonio Banderas early in his career as a madman envisioning a life for his unsuspecting hostage. Arriving at its own pleasant tipping point and a gently ironic ending, the story gives a taste of the director’s sense of absurdity, at times savage and brutal, biting and disturbing.
